Gov. Gavin Newsom was called out for a lack of accountability on Sunday, as wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles, California. Critics say California's governor is shirking responsibility following a flurry of media appearances during the crisis.
“I mean, he's the governor of California. He might as well be the mayor of California. We're all in this together. We're all better when we're all better,” he said when pressed by NBC that the “bull stops” with him.
Newsom spoke to NBC News in a nearly 20-minute interview about the ongoing wildfires across Los Angeles. The interview aired Sunday during NBC's “Meet the Press.” The governor of California was also mocked for his interview with Pod Save America, which is run by many Obama staffers, while Los Angeles is dealing with fires.
Critics said Newsom “slept after a nap” during the interview and accused him of avoiding accountability. One user said the California governor gave a “confused answer.”

During an appearance on Pod Save America, Newsom defended his decision to investigate the “loss of water pressure on local fire mains” and the “unavailability of water supplies from the Santa Ynez Reservoir.”
“Let's get the facts and get them out quickly,” he said during the podcast. “Let's stop pointing fingers at each other. Let's check the truth. I don't care who is guilty. I wanna know what happened.”

A spokesperson for Newsom defended the governor's decision to go on the podcast in a statement to The Daily Beast.
