Cameron Diaz Says Acting Hiatus Was 'Best 10 Years' of Her Life
Cameron Diaz she's grateful for her 10-year hiatus from acting – but she's grateful to be back.
“Oh my God, I loved you. It was the best 10 years of my life,” said Diaz, 52, on the Friday, January 17, episode The Graham Norton Show about retiring from filmmaking. “I was free to just say, 'I'm a mother, I'm a wife, I'm living my life.'”
Diaz's last project before her 10-year hiatus was 2014's Annie, in which she co-starred. Jamie Foxx. She and Foxx, 57, both star on Netflix Back to Actionwhich premiered on the broadcast site on Friday.
Diaz went on to say that quitting acting “makes sense.” [her] family” at that time, as she and her husband Benji Maddenmarried in 2015, they share two children: daughter Raddix, born in 2019, and son Cardinal, born in 2024. Diaz added that after a while “people stopped asking” him to take on new roles. “It was great,” she said.
Diaz gave several reasons why he ultimately chose to do another film – with Foxx as his costar Back to Action among them. However, he also explained why he finally chose to return to the silver screen.
“It's an honor to do this,” he told the host Graham Norton about acting. “I just said to myself, if I can just stop this, all this interest, all this that I have been able to build for a long time, the love I have for entertaining people and making films [make] people smile and laugh and have fun, and they sit in the theater or they sit at home and it moves them – if I don't participate in that again and give that a chance and participate in it and be grateful for it, I'd be a fool.”
Despite his return, it is not yet known if this will be a permanent move for the actor's career. “This is maybe the beginning, maybe I'll just go in, maybe I'll go gung-ho, we'll see,” he said. “It exists and I am very grateful for it.”
