Chiefs player, Xavier Worthy, says it's a 'dream come true' to have Patrick Mahomes as a quarterback.

Every rookie entering the NFL wants to make an immediate impact on their team, especially first-round picks who carry the weight of expectations when they hear their names called by Commissioner Roger Goodell on draft night.

After breaking the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Scouting Combine, Xavier Worthy raised his draft stock, moving into that area of ​​being a potential first-rounder.

Throughout the season, the Kansas City Chiefs have been among the teams looking for another player to work with Patrick Mahomes on offense. With the 28th overall pick in hand, Worthy was still available, and they wasted no time adding his speed to the roster.

Less than a month after being drafted in the first round, Worthy quickly realized he had a two-time MVP, three-time Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowl quarterback to throw the ball to.

One can only guess how he feels about that after 13 games and a 12-1 record.

“It's like a dream come true,” Worthy told Fox News Digital before Week 15.

What should be understood is that there is no time to consider whether Mahomes is his new driver. When it came time to go to work, he quickly realized that all the winning that comes with being a Chief is a business at the end of the day.

Of course, Worthy wasn't guaranteed to come in and work with Mahomes right away. First, he had to learn the playbook and develop chemistry with his new quarterback on the practice field and in games.

However, for his first career touchdown, Worthy took a curveball from Mahomes to the house for a 21-yard touchdown to the Baltimore Ravens.

Since then, Worthy has compiled 38 receptions on 67 targets for 448 yards with four touchdowns through the air, along with 54 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

He feels the trust a quarterback needs in his receivers is there, leading to excellent first-year numbers.

“Pat, he's a guy like him, if you show you can go out and do it, and you trust him, and you get his trust, he's going to trust you all season,” Worthy said of Mahomes. “I feel like I've earned his trust, and I feel like we're getting something good.”

A good example of that came in the Chiefs' recent win in a close game, which required Mahomes to make another game-winning drive.

On fourth-and-6 with the game on the line, Mahomes was scrambling in the pocket as the Los Angeles Chargers' pass rusher passed through his offensive line, looking for a receiver to give him a chance to extend the drive.

Mahomes could look to Travis Kelce, DeAndre Hopkins or other veteran options if he so desired. However, knowing where Worthy would be, he let go of the ball as he turned to look at his quarterback. Worthy ran back to the ball, defended it and kept the team's chances alive.

The job was well done, even if there was some pain.

“I actually dislocated my finger on that same play. I put it back in after that — you can see it in the video,” Worthy said. “But, it's big to be able to have that trust from my quarterback in the NFL. I feel like everybody talks about being that guy in the NFL, so to be able to build that trust and put dates with your quarterback is huge.”

The accumulated victories led to what every rookie wants: playoff football.

It's fitting that the Chiefs clinched the AFC West title for the ninth consecutive season after defeating the Chargers, and the rookie is excited to continue developing that relationship with Mahomes to help their offense win a third straight Super Bowl.
