Cool weather for New Year's Eve, cold weather for the season next week

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Monday was the last warm day we will see for a while. High temperatures were in the low to mid 70s, but a cold front will bring cooler weather on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. An arctic airmass will move in next week bringing cold days and cold nights.

A cold front will begin Monday night pushing the warm air out of the area as our lows will reach the 40s. Windy conditions will be favorable, but there will be winds of 5 to 10 per hour overnight.

New Year's Eve: The front will not bring rain so expect mostly sunny skies on Tuesday. Winds will occasionally gust 15 to 20 miles per hour making for a cool afternoon, and a chilly night. Temperatures will be in the low 40s at midnight as we approach 2025. No rain is expected, so if you're setting off fireworks, or celebrating outside with family and friends, you're good to go!

New Year's Day: Temperatures will be in the 30s Wednesday morning followed by a cool afternoon in the 50s with a light north wind. Highs will be near average with plenty of sunshine.

Week end to weekend: High temperatures will be in the 50s and low 60s for the rest of the week. There will be a slight warming trend over the weekend before a cold front brings showers and storms late Sunday. This front has enough strength to guard against severe weather, but cooler temperatures may prevent any strong storms.

It's cold next week!! Confidence is very high in the cold air that comes after our weekend storms. At this point no wintry weather is expected during Sunday/Monday, but highs will drop into the 40s with wind chill temperatures. Every day next week will be in the 40s and lows in the 20s.

The later part of the week (January 10/11) could bring a bit of cold and some rain. If this happens we may have to watch out for winter weather. Since we have been gone for more than 10 days, we do not know specifics or fine details. These will be fixed later this week and next week, so stay tuned for updates!
