The reality star, 30, and the TV producer, 41, tied the knot at Casa de Monte Vista in Palm Springs, California, on Tuesday, December 3, with just 20 guests.
“We were planning to get married, and we didn't have a date. We just looked at each other, and we're the same kind of crazy. We just looked at each other and it was like, 'This is the right time to do it,' ” Stodden tells Self. Usnoting that the couple started planning the wedding three weeks ago when they realized that both of their families would be in town for Thanksgiving.
“It's the holidays, of course it's stressful and we just bought a house together, so we're dealing with that. My family was like, 'Are you crazy?' and we say, 'Yes!' It seemed like the right time,” he explained. “I'm definitely a free spirit and I always have been and I don't think that's going to go away after marriage, so I felt like it was the right time and it just all came together. “
Although the details of the two's impromptu wedding were quickly arranged, Stodden didn't skimp on a few unique touches. On her special day, Stodden wore a $60,000 vintage wedding dress and a ring her father gave her mother when her parents tied the knot. After the ceremony, the newlyweds treated their guests to a completely vegan menu, including a vegan carrot cake.
“I feel happy. “I feel like I'm on a journey to where I'm supposed to be,” Stodden said We, adding that Safier “lights up” his life. “Everything that has happened so far has led me here.”
Safier, on the other hand, could not agree more. He says: “I feel good. “I'm going to marry my best friend and the love of my life and I'm able to do it in front of his family and my family, so, I'm very happy.”
Stodden was previously married to an actress Doug Hutchison from 2011 to 2020. The pair made headlines for their Las Vegas weddings when they were 16 and 50, respectively. He stood up and continued with the businessman Chris ShengHe was engaged to her from 2021 to 2023. After their split, Stodden began dating Safier in August 2023 and announced their engagement in June.
Stodden remembers meeting Safier for the first time before a project they were working on together. After drinking coffee, he warned her not to fall in love with him.
“He looked at me like I was crazy, and said, 'What? Don't like me in a business meeting?!'” he recounted Us. “But I felt like, if this guy loves me, I'm like you, you know, I'm done because I just felt this call to him, and our first kiss, it's almost like our 80th kiss, the first kiss for me. It's something I've never felt before and I feel like it's an indescribable feeling. I felt like this is where I should be. It's weird, but I felt like I was supposed to be with him, and I just had to be with him, and everything is going smoothly, the chaos is going.”
While planning her wedding to Safier, Stodden thought about her previous marriage to Hutchison.
“I want to be happy, and I think the wedding I went through in Vegas – it was too fast and I couldn't process it because I was 16,” she explains. “So this is very important for me, to finally have my decision to get married. I don't have to have a parent out of this one. This is completely my decision.”
Despite feeling “devastated,” Stodden said she is also “excited” about the next chapter in her relationship with Safier.
“I think it's natural for me because of my story to be nervous about this because I really want my happy ending,” he said. “I want this to be, and it's weird because a lot of PTSD and a lot of different things have been going around, but I know I'm marrying a really amazing man and I'm hopeful, so. I feel all the emotions. … I just know that my gut is telling me that this is where I belong right now, and I'm just going with it.”
