Democratic lawmaker calls for 'bipartisan cooperation' in Elon Musk's DOGE plans

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., insisted Sunday that it could be a “bipartisan partnership” to end government inefficiencies with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

ABC's “This Week” host Martha Raddatz asked the Democratic lawmaker about recent discussions with Musk about President-elect Donald Trump's push to cut government spending.

While it's still a largely Republican effort, Khanna hoped to work with Musk to tackle the spending spree.

“Yes, there is one place. Elon Musk was brilliant because he worked with President Obama and Ash Carter to have Space X and that disrupted Boeing and Lockheed. We were getting out, the American people, and putting satellites into space. And the President Obama, under his leadership, Ash Carter's leadership, they say, Elon, through Space X, you can apply to launch these Exploitable rockets—” Khanna said.

“Now go to your interview with him,” interrupted Raddatz.

He continued, “Well, we've talked about that. And I made the case that Tesla and SpaceX were funded by the Obama administration and let's have a role in the government. But let's see what he did with Space X. Why can't we do that with other parts of the five primes to reduce costs, I think that when it comes to defense, to find the best defense for the price and to reduce costs, there can be greater bipartisan cooperation?

Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy currently lead DOGE (Department of Government Operations), which is not a formal government department, and have been meeting with several Republican members of the Senate and House about ways to cut spending.

The DOGE Caucus became officially bipartisan Tuesday after Florida Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz has announced that he will join the group, advocating for the removal of the US Secret Service (USSS) from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“Today I will join the Congressional DOGE Caucus, because I believe that slowing down government processes and reducing government spending should not be a partisan issue,” Moskowitz said in a statement.

“I was clear that there are ways we can reorganize our government to better serve the American people. In particular, the Department of Homeland Security, while necessary, has grown too large,” Moskowitz said.
