Dick Van Dyke and Wife Escape Malibu Home Amid 'Bad' Fire
Dick Van Dyke is keeping winds amid the wildfires that have ravaged Malibu since Monday, December 9.
“Arlene and I got out safely with our animals except that Bobo ran away while we were leaving,” Van Dyke, 98, shared on Facebook on Tuesday, December 10, referring to his wife. Arlene Silver. “We pray that he will survive and that our community at Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires.”
In a second update, Van Dyke shared a cute video of his and Silver's pet cat, Bobo, and wrote: “Hoping Bobo is ok.”

Affluent Malibu is home to stars including Van Dyke, Cher, Barbra Streisand and more.
Cher's spokesperson, Liz Rosenbergtold the newspaper that the singer fled the hotel with his pets on Monday. Streisand's spokesperson told the media Times he was still waiting for news of the Oscar winner's whereabouts.
Tuesday's wildfire and evacuation came just days before Van Dyke's 99th birthday on Friday, December 13.
Earlier this year, the Mary Poppins The star jokingly said that he hopes he is still alive to celebrate his 99th birthday.
“I'm really old,” Van Dyke told a photographer in September, on Page Six.
When asked if he had any plans to celebrate his birthday in December, he joked, “I'm just praying that I make it.”
That same month, Van Dyke sparked concern after canceling a series of scheduled appearances, including a fan meeting in Utah.
“We regret to announce that Dick Van Dyke is unable to attend FanX,” read a statement from FanX, the company that runs the three-day event. “He expresses his gratitude to all those who continue to support him but, at the age of almost 99, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he can do right now.”
The famous actor also withdrew from the 2024 Emmy Awards on September 15, although there were plans for him to be one of the celebrities of the night.
However, she attended the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 7 where her CBS special, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magicwon the Outstanding Variety Special award.
Along with joking that he was “still looking for a job,” Van Dyke shared his hope that his legacy would be one of “laughter.”
“For making people laugh for 75 years,” he told reporters about what he wants to be remembered for. “I've been in the business for 75 years, I can't believe I'm still here and playing!”
