Elton John Gives Update on Eye Loss, Can't See Stage in Musical

Elton John he opens his chest about losing his eyes.

The legendary singer, 77, told the opening night audience The Devil Wears Prada: Music in London on Sunday, December 1, that he struggled to see the stage, according to Daily Mail. (John provided the music.)

“As some of you know I have had problems and now I can't see anymore. I couldn't see you play but I enjoyed it,” said John, coming out.

I Mail reports that John was “helped” by her husband, David Furnish62, the singer praised him for supporting him in his health problems.

“To my husband who has been my rock because I couldn't come up with a lot of ideas … it's hard for me to see but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming,” he told the crowd.

In November, John shared during an interview with Good Morning America's Robin Roberts that he had lost the sight in his right eye during the summer.

“I had a disease in the South of France,” he said. “I haven't been able to see for four months now, and my left eye isn't the biggest.”

John said there is “hope and encouragement” that he will be okay in the end.

“I'm on hold for now,” he added, noting that he's not sure if it's possible to “go into the studio and record” music right now.

“I don't see the music, first of all. We're taking steps to try to make it better, but for now that's what we're focused on,” explained John. “It is never lucky that something like this happened. I felt bad, and I can't see anything. I can't read anything, I can't watch anything.”

John first explained about his eye problems in a statement on Instagram in early September.

“In the summer, I was dealing with a serious eye problem that left me unable to see well in one eye,” said the singer. “I am recovering, but it is a slow process and it will take time before the vision returns to the affected eye.”

“I've been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and I feel optimistic about the progress I've made in my treatment and recovery so far,” he continued before signing the letter “with love and gratitude.”
