Elvis Presley was 'really difficult,' 'bitter' with women before his death, according to former bodyguard

Legendary music producer Elvis Presley provided consumers with his best-selling hits, including “Hound Dog” and “Jailhouse Rock,” with a blend of country, rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll, and both sound his and his love was rewarded. with hysterical fans.

In the months leading up to his sudden death on Aug. 16, 1977, it was reported that Presley was in a lot of pain.

“He was very heavy,” Ted Pryor, an author and former bodyguard of Presley, told Fox News Digital.

“Elvis was at a time when he was heavy and didn't like to be touched, because he was always sweating and hot,” he said.

Pryor, a super middleweight kick boxing champion, was hired by Presley's team because of his world champion status.

“Elvis, when he was young in the ministry, learned a little bit of martial arts, and he was fascinated by it,” Pryor said. “Finding the 'King's' bodyguard was very exciting for me.”

Pryor and his friend Joe were training Florida law enforcement, FBI and DEA agents on field defenses when they received a call from Presley's team offering to be bodyguards while he was on tour in the US.

“Unfortunately, no one knew it at the time, but he was broken,” Pryor told Fox News Digital.

“He had to start touring, because his manager was gambling his money,” he added of Presley's manager at the time, Colonel Tom Parker.

The kickboxing duo traveled all over the country from Tennessee and Florida to New York to California with “The King” but they didn't do it in other countries.

“Elvis never traveled outside of the United States,” Pryor said. “Elvis' manager, there was a reason they kept him in the US, because he had a gambling problem.”

Despite Presley's weight gain, which has been widely discussed in the decades following his death, women flock to the “It's Now or Never” singer and sneak through the crowd to get to the stage.

“Women were chasing the stage,” Pryor told Fox News Digital. “It was interesting, because you would grab them by the waist. We would put them down a little, and our little guards would pick them up.”

Pryor said the men would protect three to four women at a time with takedown techniques and that one woman, who was given a scarf by Presley himself, used the device to strangle Pryor.

“He was trying to get to Elvis,” he said. “He put it around my neck and started choking me.”

Pryor and Joe unknowingly stay by his side on what could be the last journey of his life until they receive unexpected news that will continue to shock and destroy the world. Presley's death was so shocking that former President Jimmy Carter issued a public statement about his passing in Memphis.

“It wasn't a good call,” Pryor said. “I think the whole world was shocked when that happened.”

Looking back fondly on his time with Presley, Pryor said the singer treated his patrons well and that despite being “sour” he was often “nice” to them.

“He lost his mother, he lost his wife, and he was bitter toward women,” Pryor said.
