GREENSBORO, NC — Usually when a head coach leaves the job at an unusual time, it leaves the program reeling, and that often manifests in a disappointing regular season.
When Billy Godwin left his position as head coach at UNC Greensboro on December 31, 2023 to return to work with the Yankees, however, the Spartans were not really missed.
Assistant coach Cody Ellis took over as interim head coach, the rest of the staff stayed together and a talented UNCG team exceeded expectations by going 33-21 overall and winning the SoCon regular season title.[…]
