Faster Than Ever: The 8 Fastest Spaceships in Sci-Fi
Posted by Joshua Tyler | Published
If you travel in space, you will need a ship. At the moment, the only ships we know how to make are slow-fire rockets. Science fiction moves very quickly.
While some stories are better when things move slowly, sci-fi is often more fun when things move at a steady pace. But which sci-fi star is the fastest?
It depends on what you ask. For example, a battleship is probably faster than a regular spaceship, but a spaceship would be an easy winner. So, for the purposes of this list we measure our ships by how fast they can go from point A to point B.
These are the fastest stars of science fiction.
8. Lexx (Lexx)
I LEXX a biomechanical spaceship that can travel faster than light. The LEXX moves through space with a biologically driven propulsion system. This natural propulsion allows the ship to travel across galaxies and even through space at speeds that have not been precisely determined but are shown to be much higher than the mass of ordinary stars in the universe.
Although it lacks the complex navigation systems common to mechanical spacecraft, its biological structure compensates for the natural affinity of space travel. Its ability to cross interdimensional and interdimensional boundaries suggests a more advanced and possibly unique understanding of the spatial physics embodied in its biological systems.
Despite its unparalleled speed, LEXX often needs guidance from its crew to determine destinations, as it lacks the cognitive ability to make strategic decisions. The ship's combination of organic propulsion and precise navigation conditions LEXX as one of the most unusual ships in science fiction, even if it is bad.
7. Andromeda Ascendant (Andromeda)
I Andromeda Ascendant is a Shining Heritage-class heavy cruiser designed as part of the High Guard fleet in the Systems Commonwealth. With the fall of the Commonwealth, Andromeda is the only one left.
Andromeda's propulsion relies on Slipstream Drive, a technology that enables faster-than-light travel in a network of naturally occurring pathways called slipstream pathways. Unlike traditional FTL systems, slipstream navigation requires a precise pilot to chart a course along these unstable routes. Exact calculations are impossible due to the chaotic nature of slipstream physics.
Andromeda's AI must work with human pilots to navigate this complex system efficiently and quickly.
6. Planet Express Ship (Futurama)
I Planet Express Ship a modern delivery spacecraft designed by the brilliant but dimwitted Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth.
The ship is powered by a dark matter engine, which provides endless fuel efficiency and works by moving the space around the ship rather than a spaceship. This unique propulsion system allows the Planet Express Ship to reach unlimited speed relative to itself, allowing for fast or near interstellar travel.
The ship's engine is fueled by dark matter, a substance refined from the waste of the Nibblonian species, making it as strange as it works.
5. Event Horizon (Event Horizon)
I Event Horizonfrom the 1997 sci-fi horror film of the same name, is an experimental spacecraft designed to test a propulsion system known as the Gravity Drive. This drive allows for faster-than-light travel by creating an artificial black hole, collapsing spacetime so that two points are instantly connected.
The core of the Gravity Drive uses exotic materials and advanced energy consumption to produce singularities, shrinking the distance between places in space. In doing so, Event Horizon doesn't go the usual way; instead, it “jumps” from one point to another by completely skipping the intervening space. The Gravity Drive is installed in a special and very intimidating area at the back of the ship, surrounded by defense platforms and reinforced structures to control the massive force and gravity it produces.
That sounds all well and good, except it has a horrible side effect. In order to get between the two points, the Event Horizon must first go through what is hell. As you can imagine, that doesn't go well.
However, Event Horizon can get you where you are going very quickly. You'll probably be mad or dead by the time you get there.
4. Discovery (Star Trek: Discovery)
I USS Discovery (NCC-1031) in the middle Star Trek: Discovery it is one of two Crossfield-class starships built by Starfleet. Both were equipped with an experimental tracking system called the Spore Drive, but only Discovery made it work.
This test drive uses a mycelial network, a subdomain made up of a large web of particles that spans the entire galaxy. Yes, the plane basically uses space mushrooms.
The biologically enhanced Spore Drive system includes an organic supercomputer communicating with a living sailor, especially a creature like the tardigrade Ripper or later, Commander Paul Stamets, who uses injected bullets to connect to the network. By accessing this mycelial network, Discovery can instantly “jump” to any location in the universe, exceeding normal warp speed limits and enabling unparalleled capabilities and exploration tactics.
Spore Drive instruments are based on advanced technobabble, where the ship reorients itself through very small nozzles in space-time rather than through space. While conventional Star Trek warp drives rely on time manipulation through matter-antimatter reactions and dilithium crystals, the Spore Drive operates outside of this paradigm, providing rapid travel without the effects of time dilation.
3. Union Ship (mound)
The Guild enters A mound they are large spaceships used by the Spacing Guild for rapid interstellar travel, the basis of the Imperium's economy and rule.
These ships use space warping technology, which is achieved through the use of psychoactive spice melange. This ability gives Guild Navigators a real ability to charge safe routes in a warped environment. The process, known as Holtzman Drive-powered space rolling, breaks down large distances between two points, effectively eliminating travel time.
The corporation's ships are manned by mutated human Navigators who, after prolonged exposure to the spice, develop superhuman cognitive abilities and physical disabilities. These abilities allow them to perceive the complex, dynamic patterns of warped space and avoid deadly collisions with celestial bodies.
These large cylindrical vessels could carry entire ships or large amounts of cargo, making them very important in trade, warfare, and governance.
2. The TARDIS (Doctor Who)
The TARDIS represents Time and Relative Dimension In Space. The Doctor's ride made its debut long before the events we see on screen in Doctor Who. The incredibly old Type 40 Time Capsule was built by the Time Lords on the planet Gallifrey.
The TARDIS is alive and incredibly intelligent. It is available in many dimensions at the same time, which is why it is large inside. This multi-dimensional nature allows it to escape the usual boundaries of both time and space.
When the Doctor sets coordinates with a new location in any time or space, the TARDIS separates from its current location, passes through a “time vortex,” and then returns to its destination. The process is almost instantaneous. A time vortex can be thought of as a highway that quickly connects different points along the space-time continuum, regardless of how far or temporally separated they are from the “normal” universe.
1. Heart of Gold (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
The space is huge. You just won't believe how big, big, amazing the mind is. I mean, you might think it's a long way from the pharmacy, but that's just peanuts in space.
So if you're going to walk around in space, you're going to need something fast. Nothing is faster than the Heart of Gold. Probably, it is the first on our list.
That's because the Heart of Gold is powered by the Infinite Improbability Drive, an amazing new way to cross long distances in under a second without all that boring talk about hyperspace.
The drive encompasses the chaotic nature of the universe by passing through every imaginable point in every imaginable universe almost simultaneously. While your typical sci-fi engines may struggle to bend the laws of physics, Infinite Improbability Drive throws that out the window and has a tea with a chaotic effect. It's impossible, which is the point.
The origins of the Heart of Gold are as mysterious and chaotic as the ship itself. The ship was designed and built on the planet Damogran, where it was to be unveiled with great fanfare at a ceremony attended by the President of the Galaxy, Zaphod Beeblebrox. Unfortunately, in an unexpected move, Zaphod stole the Heart of Gold and was taken to the unknown.
Zaphod stole it because he knows what he knows now. If you're a Hoopy Frood who knows where his towel is, there's no faster way to travel the Universe than aboard the Heart of Gold.
