Marine Le Pen, the leader of the Parliament of the National Rally of France, on Wednesday, remembered the death of her father and the founder of the party. Jean-Marie Le Pen.
“A noble age had taken away a hero, but it gave us back our father,” he wrote on stage X. “Death has come to take him back from us,” he added.
The founder of the nationalist group known as the National Front died on Tuesday at the age of 96.
“Many people he loves are waiting for him upstairs. Many people who love him are crying for him down here,” wrote Marine Le Pen.
The two had a daughter and had a difficult relationship for years.
Marine Le Pen broke away from her father in politics after he repeatedly failed in his strategy to rebrand the party and use a more moderate approach to make it more distinct from the political center.
Jean-Marie Le Pen was later expelled from the party, which changed its name in 2018.
Marine Le Pen was reportedly informed of her father's death when she returned from the French overseas territory of Mayotte.
In his post X, he said goodbye to Jean-Marie Le Pen, who was the son of a fisherman from Brittany, with words often used by the navy: “Good winds and the next seas, Father.”
