General Hospital's Kelly Monaco will return as Sam After the Death Incident
Kelly Monaco saying goodbye to General Hospital and his character, Sam McCall, after more than 20 years on the soap – but his recent death won't be the last time viewers see him on the popular soap, Us Weekly can confirm.
While the character of Monaco, Sam McCall, died on the Wednesday, October 30, episode of the ABC series, the actor, 48, will be seen for the last time – which will include a sad farewell that can be expected – in the upcoming episode later this week.
Tuesday's episode featured Sam successfully recovering from surgery and getting engaged to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). However, over time, he began to crash and the doctors were unable to revive him.
Us Weekly confirmed in August that Monaco would leave General Hospital in the fall after portraying the role of Sam McCall in more than 2,000 episodes since his debut in 2003.
Monaco initially remained tight-lipped about her departure but appeared to speak out for the first time in a deleted Instagram post from September Soap Hub, responding to a user who said she was “monotone, she has no main roles. [was] it's just boring” and refusing to take a pay cut, which Monaco already opposed.
“'No important role'.. do your homework,” replied Monaco. “When Billy Miller he was fired, Sam's story stopped. Stripping Sam of all the features he had. Something I've worked for decades to build… I'm breaking him down a little bit, making him a character I can't see, let alone the audience. Call it what you will… get revenge on it [sic] very good. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.”
In October, Monaco contemplated its final moments in the game General Hospital set up. “The last scene with the Davis girls. 😘🥲🙏🏻,” he captioned the photo on Instagram with his costars Kate Mansi, Nancy Lee Grahn again Kristen Vaganos. “It still doesn't make sense to me.”
Before Kelly's post, her mother, Carmina Monacorevealed that the Daytime Emmy nominee filmed her final scenes on September 27, just days before the show's 21st anniversary.
“I want to take this time to reach out to Kelly's amazing fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty and support you have shown her throughout her career. General Hospital,” Carmina wrote on X. “On this final day, just four days before her debut episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close her dressing room door for the last time.”
Carmina admitted that this was a “difficult” time for Kelly, but noted, “Knowing that she had such incredible, dedicated fans gave her strength. You stand by him through every twist and turn, celebrate his achievements and give him comfort in difficult times.”
He concluded: “Your love and dedication has meant more than words can say, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care deeply about her. Thank you for being there, believing in him, and reminding him of the impact he has made. We will always be grateful that you stood by him in everything.”
