Haliey Welch issues first statement after going MIA following 'Hawk Tuah' crypto crash

He's awake!

Viral internet star Haliey Welch resurfaced a few weeks ago, less than 24 hours after Mashable published a report about her disappearance following the failure of her “Hawk Tuah” memecoin token $HAWK.

In a statement provided to Mashable and posted on his X account on Friday, Welch said he was looking to help his fans who lost money due to the failed HAWK memecoin. Welch urges anyone affected by the crypto crash to contact the law firm that filed a lawsuit against the creators of $HAWK on Thursday.

The last time the public heard from Welch was during the X Spaces audio stream on the night of Dec. 4, who came in early the next morning. During the broadcast, Welch and the cryptocurrency group behind the memecoin project tried to explain to investors why $HAWK fell shortly after it was launched earlier that day.

“Anywho, I'm going to bed and I'll see you tomorrow” said Welch, interrupting the conversation in the stream before it finished. Since then, Welch has been MIA from the public eye for over two weeks. His popular weekly podcast, Talk Tuah, failed to release new episodes even then. The most recent episode of the podcast was published on December 3, just one day before the crypto launch.

Haliey Welch's first public statement about the collapse of $HAWK

Based on Welch's statement, it seems that the young viral star suspects that he had no role in the $HAWK memecoin project, other than lending his brand and star power to its promotion.

“I take this situation very seriously and want to speak to my fans, affected investors, and the community at large,” Welch's statement read. “I am fully cooperating and committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals affected, as well as helping to reveal the truth, hold the parties accountable, and resolve this matter. If you have suffered a loss related to this, please contact Burwick Law using the link below: https://www.burwick.law/newclient.”

Welch launched an official memecoin based on his viral catchphrase “Hawk Tuah”, $HAWK, on December 4. As happens with many celebrity and influencer-backed cryptocurrency projects, $HAWK was released. This usually means that a few insiders who owned most of the crypto tokens, possibly through a pre-sale before the general public received the token, dumped their holdings shortly after memecoin was launched to the public.

For $HAWK, this meant the coin's market cap dropped by millions of dollars shortly after launch. Some of Welch's fans and crypto token investors say they lost thousands of dollars in minutes.

Welch's statement comes just one day after another statement from a cryptocurrency company with ties to a failed memecoin project called OverHere. According to the group, the person blamed for the failed music launch is music producer and crypto promoter Alex Larson Schultz. Schultz, who also goes by the moniker Doc Hollywood, “managed all token decisions, payments, treasury” according to OverHer.

Welch allegedly received funding to promote memecoin and trademark it with his dangerous slogan. Sources close to Welch say that he had no role in the creation or development of the HAWK project beyond that and that he used responsible organizations to capitalize on his viral success.

And Talk Tuah fans, fear not. It appears that Welch plans to resume his podcast as soon as he clarifies what his involvement with $HAWK really was.
