Hannah Kobayashi Found One Month After Voluntarily Disappearing To Mexico, Family Says: 'Relieved And Thankful'

Hannah Kobayashi's family says she was “found safe” about a month after she entered Mexico and disappeared in what police called a voluntary disappearance that made national headlines.

“We are incredibly relieved and thankful that Hannah has been found safe,” her sister and mother, Sydni Kobayashi and Brandi Yee, said in a statement to PEOPLE through their attorney, Sara Azari.

“This past month has been unimaginably difficult for our family, and we ask for privacy as we take time to heal and process everything we've been through,” the family continued.

“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us during this difficult time. Your kindness and concern means the world to us,” said Hannah's sister and mother.

Azari said the family will not make any further statements at this time.

Hannah, a 30-year-old photographer living in Hawaii, was reported missing on November 11 after failing to catch a connecting flight from Los Angeles to New York City.

Police later determined that he went to the southern border on November 12 and traveled on foot to Tijuana, Mexico.
