“This individual is charged with committing a horrific crime against a child, which shows that he is a danger to our Massachusetts community,” said ERO Boston Office Acting Director Patricia Hyde.
It's one of several incidents that ICE's Boston unit has had to deal with after illegal immigrants have been released from local custody in and around the city. “Sanctuary” authorities generally do not honor ICE detainers, arguing that doing so encourages illegal immigrants to come forward and cooperate with police if they are victims or witnesses of crimes. Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state as it does not have a sanctuary law on the books, but a number of its cities – including Boston – are sanctuary cities.
In September, ICE announced that it had arrested an illegal immigrant from Salvador charged with multiple counts of child sex. He was one of the “bad” illegal sex offenders caught on a trip to Nantucket.
That same month, ICE announced the arrest of an “immigrant” in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was charged with raping, assaulting and assaulting an 18-year-old, but was released on bail without informing immigration.

While ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons praised the work of local officials to remove potential threats to the public from the streets, he acknowledged sanctuary policies. in Boston they are “frustrating” and make it difficult for the agency to do its job.
But those sanctuary policies are likely to be the focus of the incoming Trump administration.
'INDEPENDENCE DAY': WHAT TO EXPECT FROM PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP IN A FRIEND'S COOKING, COUNTRY ARRIVAL
President-elect Trump has promised to crack down on mass deportations, and this week called acting ICE Director Tom Homan “the king of the border.”
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said state police would “absolutely” not assist agents in their deportation efforts, and hinted at possible backlash against the administration.
“Other facts must be looked at, and in 2016, we had a different situation in the courts, and I am sure that there may be litigation. There are many other ways that people will take and they need to take action. for the sake of their districts and citizens,” said Healey. “There's regulatory and administrative power and stuff like that. There's also law within our district.

A source at ICE Boston was not impressed with Healey's comments.
