Lynn Stephenson, an office manager, sold her house, quit her job – and started traveling the world with the goal of visiting every country in the world.

He traded his two-bedroom home for hotels and hostels around the world after being bitten by the travel bug, according to news agency SWNS.
At the age of 62, he has already visited 168 countries and plans to continue with the remaining 27 within the next year.

So he sold his semi-detached house in Carlton, Nottingham, England – pocketing around $173,000 after paying off his mortgage.

He added that sometimes things can go wrong – “it's not all fun and games,” he said.
But he said traveling makes him “very calm.”
What compelled him to do this as a full-time endeavor?

“Covid gave me the absolute push I needed to do it,” he told SWNS.
“I never believed you could shut down the whole world.”
He said that “the lockdown has been lifted [in portions of the U.K.] on July 3, 2020, I was on a flight to Italy on July 5.”

He said he had put everything in stock before that flight date.
Since starting his full-time tour in late 2022, Stephenson has visited Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Pakistan and Taiwan, he told SWNS.
“I think it's really hard to choose your favorite country.”
He called the Galápagos Islands “amazing … I went for eight days and stayed for 16.”
Where else in the world, he said, “can you swim.” [on] on the same day as penguins, sharks and sea lions? They have big turtles and I saw a sea horse.”
He also said, “I think it's really hard to choose a favorite country. How can you compare Papua New Guinea to Italy? They are completely different.”
Stephenson noted Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Pakistan and Taiwan. (SWNS)
He said, “My favorite thing about traveling is just seeing that the world is full of really kind and hospitable people,” he said.
He also said, “I don't get scared easily.”

He admitted that “there will be [some] countries that I'm going to struggle to get to, like Haiti and North Korea … I've been in the DMZ, but I need to get in.”
He also said “there is a couple in the Central African Republic who don't know very well.”

Coming to him next year, he said, is Australia, where he will see friends he met on his travels and spend a few weeks.
He also has Bangladesh and Brunei on his radar for 2025.

“He's going back to Africa,” again, he said.
He said that once he has visited all the countries he can find, he will revisit some of his favorite places from his “famous world tour.”
As for his motto on his travel blog, “Try, dream, discover,” it's nothing less than this: “A smile every mile.”
