Israel attacks Houthis after missile attack
Israel has said its warplanes have carried out a series of military strikes in Yemen, which is under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
An Israeli military spokesman said the targets included Red Sea ports and energy infrastructure in the capital Sanaa.
The Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported that seven people died in the port of Salif and two in the oil center of Ras Issa, which is in the province of Hudaydah.
The strikes came less than two hours after a missile fired from Yemen was intercepted in central Israel. A school and many cars were damaged in Ramat Gan on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
The Houthis began attacking Israel and international shipping shortly after the Gaza war began in October 2023, claiming they were working in collaboration with the Palestinians.
The Israeli military says hundreds of missiles and drones have been launched into the country from Yemen, most of which have been intercepted.
