Israeli President Herzog apologizes to the relatives of the victims of October 7
Israeli President Isaac Herzog apologized to the relatives of the victims of the massacre by Hamas on October 7 last year on behalf of the state of Israel.
“I stand here as the president of the State of Israel and I apologize,” Herzog said during a ceremony in Jerusalem on Sunday.
Unlike Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not apologized.
He acknowledged the mistakes of the security company, but Netanyahu wants to be investigated only after the end of the war in Gaza.
Herzog was clear: “We are sorry that we failed to protect your loved ones, we are sorry that we violated the basic and binding agreement between the country and its citizens to protect their lives and safety,” Herzog said.
Hamas terrorists and other militants in the Gaza Strip have killed 1,200 people and taken 250 hostages in Israel's surprise attack in more than a year. Warnings about the possibility of such a widespread attack apparently went unheeded.
