Israel's Netanyahu says the goal is to stop Hezbollah at the border
During his visit to the Israeli-Lebanon border, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Israel will do everything possible to remove Hezbollah forces from this region.
Hezbollah must be pushed back north of the Litani River, which is about 30 kilometers from the border, Netanyahu said, according to a statement issued by his office on Sunday.
Netanyahu vowed to create conditions for the safe return of citizens to their homes in northern Israel. One of those conditions is to prevent Hezbollah from re-arming in the future, the prime minister said.
“We are attacking all parts of Lebanon,” Netanyahu said. He added that Israel should respond in a comprehensive manner to any action against us.
Another goal he listed is to prevent arms shipments from Iran to Hezbollah via Syria.
