Foxx, 56, filed a lawsuit over his previous hospitalization Jamie Foxx: What happenedpremiered on Tuesday, December 10. Foxx revealed that he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke after suffering a headache in April 2023.
The special was filmed in October – nearly two years after Foxx suffered a medical emergency while filming Back to Action in Atlanta. His eldest daughter, Corinne Foxxrevealed at the time that “due to quick action and great care” his father was “already on the road to recovery.” (Jamie shares Corrine's ex Connie Kline. She also has a daughter Anelise, 15, with ex Kristin Grannis.)

Jamie hasn't been outspoken about his fear of life since. In July 2023, the actor made a rare statement to clarify some rumors about his condition.
“You know quietly, sometimes things get out of hand, people say what I found [and] some people say I am blind, but as you can see the eyes are working. The eyes work well!” he said in an Instagram video. “They say I'm disabled, I'm not disabled but I went to hell and came back, and my road to recovery was bumpy. I'm coming back and I'm able to work.”
Jamie said he “went through something” he thought he would “never” go through again.
“I want you to see me laughing, enjoying parties, cracking jokes, making a film, and a television show. I didn't want you to see me coming out of the tubes trying to see if I would pass,” he continued. “I can't tell you how good it is to have your family kick like that and you know they kept you tight, they didn't take anything out, they protected me, and that's what I hope everyone can have. times like these.”
Earlier this year, Jamie returned to his set again Cameron DiazUpcoming Netflix movie. He was also able to walk Corrine down the aisle in September when she got married Joe Hooten. Jamie returned to the stage one month later to perform his first stand-up show since being released from the hospital.
Jamie told the audience at the time that “my heart and soul are filled with pure joy” after filming the Netflix special, which she teased would give her “an opportunity to tell my side of the story.”

What Indeed It happened
“We still don't know what happened to me,” Foxx said during the special event, explaining how he suffered a terrible headache on April 11, 2023. He asked a friend for aspirin, but, “Before I got aspirin, I was giving aspirin . came out.”
“I don't remember 20 days. What they told me was that they took me to the first doctor and the first doctor shot me with cortisone and sent me home,” he continued. “What the f–k is that? I don't know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that's half a star, n—a,” he joked.
His sister sought a second opinion
Foxx shared how her younger sister, Deidra Dixonwho he described as “4-foot-11 of nothing but love,” did not accept the first doctor's treatment. He says, 'Put him in the car. That's not my brother,'” Foxx recalled, explaining that her sister ended up driving her to Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital.
At the hospital, the doctor told the Oscar winner's sister, “He had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.” Foxx said, “He said, 'If I don't get into his head right now, we're going to lose him.'
“They took me to surgery, and my sister went down outside the operating room and prayed the whole time,” he continued joking that “she didn't see the light” but “she saw the tunnel.” He added, “It was hot in the tunnel. [I thought] 'S–t, am I going to the wrong place for this mom?'”
Foxx Reveals He Had a Stroke
After undergoing brain surgery, the doctor told Foxx's sister that he had suffered a stroke. “'He might make a full recovery but it's going to be the worst year of his life,'” the doctor told Foxx's sister.
“That's what it was, Atlanta. You finally got the story,” said an emotional Foxx.
How His Daughter Helped His Recovery
“My vitals were so bad they thought they were going to lose me,” Foxx said of the first 15 days after his medical emergency. “That's when a miracle happened, and that miracle was working with my little daughter,” he added, referring to Anelise, 15.
“I didn't want him to see me like this. She snuck into my hospital room with her guitar, and she said, 'I know what daddy needs,'” Foxx recalled, saying that when her daughter played the guitar, her life became stronger. He then introduced Anelise to the stage to play his guitar.
The Reason for Disappearing from the Public Eye
Foxx praised his sister and daughter, Corrine, 30, for taking action following the stroke. “They held me down the f–k. 'No one sees him!' They cut it all off,” he said. “They didn't want you to see me like this and I didn't want you to see me like this. There is another reason, too, why my daughter does not want anyone to see me. I was dizzy. I was dizzy, so my head hurt [shake]. He said, 'They're going to take the f–k out of this mother.'”
His Restoration
Foxx detailed how he woke up from a 20-day coma to find himself in a wheelchair. At first he struggled to accept that he had suffered a stroke. “I said, 'That old s–t. I didn't have a stroke. Stop this hypocrisy,'” he recalled.
“They flew me to Chicago to get my condition fixed,” he continued. “Every therapist that came in, I was like, 'Get the f–k out.' I quit.”
Eventually, a physical therapist named Holly gave him some tough love and got him to start rehab.
Atlanta Saved His Life…
As he took the stage at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Foxx said, “Just 400 yards from here, at Piedmont Hospital, they put me back together. To God be the glory.”
But the Internet Tried to Kill Him
“They say I am disabled. He said I can't go. But look at me now,” she laughed, dancing to Unk's “Walk It Out.”
Without missing a beat, Foxx joked about the latest allegations he's facing Sean “Diddy” Combs — especially his alleged “fraudulent” parties.
“The internet said Puffy tried to kill me. That's what the internet was saying. I know what you're thinking: 'Did he go?'” Foxx laughed. “Hell, naw, n—a. I left them before the events. I left at 9, too. 'Something is wrong, n—a. It's slippery here, n—a.'”
Later, explaining how he couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel while in a coma, he joked that he finally saw Diddy. “I thought I saw the devil. Or was that Puffy?” he laughed. “I'm going. But if it was Puffy, he had a burning bottle of Johnson & [baby oil].”
