Jean Smart Urges TV Networks Not to Accept Hollywood Awards Amid LA Fires
Jean Smart has a message for television executives amid the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.
“Be careful! WITH ALL due respect, during Hollywood's celebratory season, I hope that any networks broadcasting the upcoming awards will seriously consider WHAT YOU DON'T SEE ON TV and donate the proceeds to victims of fires and firefighters,” Hacks the star wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, December 8.
Smart's plea comes as various Hollywood events have been affected by at least four fires across Los Angeles. The Critics Choice Awards – scheduled for Sunday, January 12, and airing on E! – have been postponed, as has been the announcement of the nominations for the Oscars. The big issue was supposed to take place on Friday, January 17, and has now been penciled in for Sunday, January 19, according to the report. The Hollywood Reporter. (The Oscars are scheduled to air March 2 on ABC.)
“This tragedy has already had a great impact on our society. All our thoughts and prayers are with those fighting the devastating fires and all those affected,” said the CEO of the Critics Choice Awards. Joey Berlin said the statement. The Critics Choice Awards will now air live on January 26.
Before the fires broke out on Tuesday, January 7, Smart, 73, was honored at the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5, where she won the award for Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy, Hacks. Many Hollywood stars have been affected by the LA fires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds. On Wednesday night, another fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills, a popular area among celebrities.
Dancing with the Stars the host Julianne Hough was among the Hollywood Hills residents who evacuated the area on Wednesday.
“Okay, so, there's a fire near my house,” Hough said via Instagram Stories, in a clip filmed at her home. “We have friends, but whoever is in the Hollywood Hills, I just had this feeling that we're on a channel about how everything revolves around Hollywood, and now this is in the middle of Hollywood. Everyone just needs to get out. Go, go, go, go, go. Right now.”
After sharing that message, Hough updated his followers with a second video taken from the car. He had his dog, Sunny.
“Sunny and I are safe and we're driving, but the reason why I say 'get out now' even if it's not near you, if there's somewhere you can go, is because: There's traffic,” he said. “And you will be stuck in traffic. And that's not good. So everybody, please be safe and send prayers to all the first responders and firefighters and just come together – you know, like, all you can do is work together.”
