Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's Sister Is 'Speechless' As Nephew Is Born
Johnny again Matthew Gaudreauhis sister Katie she was celebrating the arrival of her new nephew.
Matthew's wife, Madelineannounced the birth of the couple's first child, Tripp, via Instagram on Sunday, December 29, four months after her husband's death.
Katie reshared Madeline's post on her Instagram Stories Sunday and wrote, “She really can't talk.” She also shared a post from the North American Hockey League team the Philadelphia Rebels celebrating the arrival of Tripp's baby. (Matthew, who was 29, was the team's assistant coach.)
“Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋,” Madeline wrote on Instagram on Sunday, welcoming the baby. “Mother and Father's World.” The post included a photo of Madeline holding the baby's tiny hand, alongside a small sign that read, “He's here.” He tagged Mathayi again in the post.
Matthew and his brother, NHL star Johnny (who was 31), were struck and killed by an alleged drunken driver while cycling near their New Jersey hometown on August 29, just one day before Katie's planned wedding. The brothers were expected to be escorts in this event.
According to Katie's wedding website, she and her boyfriend, Devin Joycethey are now set to tie the knot on July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Shortly after her brothers death, Katie thought about getting the news as she made final preparations to walk down the aisle.
“That day,” Katie wrote on Instagram on September 5. “Just as I was getting ready for the best day of my life, the unthinkable happened that would change my life forever. I remember last week I was at a hotel with family and texting Devin about how we forgot to get used to our dip. To think that was our greatest concern at this time when just a moment and a call later our lives would change forever.”
Katie added, “Remember to tell your people you love them. I would do anything to tell my big brothers that I love them back.”
In September, Katie revealed that she honored her brothers with a new tattoo on her wedding band. “Forever with me now.” J & M,” Katie wrote on her Instagram Story on Sept. 7, sharing a photo of the band with Johnny and Matthew's initials.
Johnny and Matthew are also survived by another sister, Kristen Venellotheir parents, Guy again JaneJohnny's wife, Meredithand Johnny and Meredith's two children, Noah, 2, and Johnny, 10 months. (Meredith revealed in September that she was pregnant with the couple's third child.)
