Kevin Costner defends Liz Cheney

Actor Kevin Costner on Monday defended Liz Cheney, saying the former Republican governor of Wyoming should be applauded for her public service.

“I expect people in government to do the right thing. Public service is about public service. It's not about your job. It's not about your ego. Your four years are your four years,” the former “Yellowstone” star said during the live broadcast. , “The Michael Smerconish Program” town hall show on SiriusXM.

Cheney came under fire from President-elect Trump days before his Election Day victory. He criticized his remarks when he called him a “military hawk” in the comfort of Washington, DC.

“Let's have him standing there with a gun and shooting nine barrels at him, okay,” Trump said. “Let's see how he feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on his face.”

Cheney has been one of Trump's biggest critics and campaigned against Vice President Kamala Harris. He criticized Trump after many of his supporters stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Costner endorsed Cheney ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. That year, Cheney shared a photo of the actress wearing a T-shirt that said, “I want Liz Cheney.”

“I'm so proud of Liz Cheney,” Costner said. “I found someone who does not agree with one side at all and is determined to stand up. We must applaud him. We must protect him.”

“This woman should never be intimidated,” he added.

Cheney lost his bid for re-election to Rep. Harriett Hageman, who was supported by Trump, in the GOP primary.
