Killer New Friday the 13th Theory Explains Everything in the Franchise

On a cold night, there's nothing as warm as a nostalgia blanket, which is why my wife and I have been rewatching all the Friday the 13th movies. The franchise goes big with each new film, introducing mysterious supernatural elements like reanimated corpses, telekinetic gals, and a main character who can magically awaken. All this led me to my fan theory about the franchise: that is, that Crystal Lake really has a “death curse” and that the past witchcraft of the deceased Pamela Voorhees may explain many of the unexplained events of these films.

Now, before the creepy thugs pull out their machetes, I'll be the first to admit that my “new” theory is like a weird stew of previous theories. For example, many fans have speculated how much Crazy Ralph was up to regarding the Cursing of Crystal Lake, too. Jason Goes to Hell director Adam Marcus presents the vision of Pamela Voorhees using dark magic to resurrect her son. Of course, Marcus believed that the resurrection was accomplished through the Necronomicon appearing Evil Dead.

My theory is that Mama Voorhees was trying to cast a completely different spell, and her untimely death set off a series of terrible events.

How Pamela Voorhees' Death Defines The Friday The 13th Franchise

While I completely reject the Necromonicon stuff (sorry, Jason as a Deadite is seriously stupid), I believe Pamela Voorhees became a witch shortly before the first movie took place. This would give him the strength to resurrect his son, make them a family again. However, we all know that dark magic requires sacrifices, and it is my theory that his killing in the first film was an attempt to complete the magic spell and bring Jason back to life.

As every good Friday the 13th fan knows, however, his head is chopped off at the end of that first film before he kills his final victim (and, in my opinion, completes the spell). Given the magical abilities within him at this time (at least, in my opinion), the dark energy in his body would have penetrated the Crystal Lake itself and the surrounding area. At least, this explains the inexplicable resurrection of Jason Voorhees: he was regenerated by a chaotic magic instead of a concentrated spell, returning him as a monstrous man and not a little boy.

However, the purpose of Pamela Voorhees' spell was to enter the camp, which may explain why the girls in the first three films all had nightmares of being attacked by someone who should have died (child Jason, old Jason, and Pam Voorhees, respectively). Speaking of resurrection, I believe Pam's spell is the reason why Jason doesn't kill (he keeps coming back to life, after all) even when he's just a boy with a bag on his head. This same magic may explain why he is mysteriously resurrected Jason is alivefrom being the completely unstoppable zombie we all know and love.

He is not the only one affected, as the power of restoring the spell will explain that the father New BloodThe last girl was still alive in Crystal Lake after drowning years ago. Speaking of that last girl (Tina Shepard), my theory might explain why she mysteriously developed telekinetic powers while dealing with trauma in Jason's past. The film makes it clear that her powers are at their peak in this area, which would make sense if those powers came from Pam Voorhees' ancient curse, giving her powers where her body still resides.

No One Can Explain Everything That Happens In This Horror Franchise

This is not a perfect Friday the 13th theory, of course. For example, it doesn't explain how Jason alternates between having the intelligence of a dumb animal to be able to do things like disable radio antennas on boats. However, it does create a fun-but-flawed Adam Marcus theory while explaining a lot of the inexplicable in this venerable franchise. Hopefully, that curse is still strong because there's nothing I'd love more than to see this franchise follow its main character and come back to life when we least expect it.
