Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare, is charged with murder in New York

Prosecutors in New York City were charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Luigi Mangione on Monday night, according to court records.

A 26-year-old suspect has also been charged criminal possession of a weapon (loaded gun)possession of a counterfeit instrument and possession of a weapon (gun silencer) in the Dec. 2 death of Brian Thompson. 4.

Thompson, 50, was shot in the back on the sidewalk outside the NYC Hilton hotel before a shareholder meeting. He was appointed CEO of the company in April 2021.

Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday after a five-day nationwide manhunt for Thompson's killer.

Rookie Altoona police officer Tyler Frye took Mangione into custody after an employee and customer at a downtown McDonald's thought he resembled the suspect on a wanted board and called authorities.

When the police came to Mangione who was wearing a mask and bandana working on a laptop in the back of the restaurant, they asked him to remove his face, to see that he was the suspect who wanted to be questioned in the case of Thompson's murder.

Meanwhile, he allegedly provided a fake ID, gave a fake name, and “became silent and started shaking” when asked if he had just been to New York.

He was said to be in possession of documents criticizing the health industry and a ghost gun similar to the one believed to have been used to kill Thompson.

Luigi Mangione was charged with multiple counts, including murder, in New York City on Monday night in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Altoona police initially arrested Mangione on charges unrelated to Thompson's murder – illegal possession of a firearm, giving false information to police and forgery.

Mangione topped his class at the prestigious Gilman School in Baltimore, and even gave the commencement address at his graduation in 2016, according to a video of the ceremony.

“He seemed like a smart kid, always doing the right thing, it seemed like,” a classmate, who was shocked by the arrest, told Fox News Digital on Monday. “He was crazy.”

He then graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering and was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society for Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Mangione is expected to be extradited to New York on Tuesday.
