Man jumps from window of burning building in LA, survives

A man jumped out of a window to escape a fire that broke out in a four-story apartment building in Westlake early Sunday morning and survived with injuries, authorities said.

The cause of this fire, which attacked many units and sent a lot of smoke into the air, is being investigated by the arson team of the Los Angeles Fire Department, according to the department.

The department responded to the fire at 140 S. Reno St. at 11:26 a.m., according to the LAFD. Using a team of 50 firefighters, the department was able to extinguish the fire before noon.

At 11:47 a.m., a person was being evaluated for injuries after jumping from the second floor of the building, according to the fire department.

The fire appears to have started in the hallway on the second floor of the building and quickly spread to the third floor, according to the LAFD. The department described the building as a hybrid of gardens and a central hall.

Officers searched the building and its exterior twice but found no other injuries.
