Getty Images(2)Maren Morris and ex-husband Ryan Hurd each taking the world of music by storm, releasing their new single on Friday, October 25.
Morris, 34, released People Still Show Up. Announcing the song via Instagram, he humbly wrote, “Someone change the subject…🧡.”
With words like, “Life pushed you down so low, you fell into the mud, but people still come out,” and “Why is it that when the world ends and you don't have a friend, from the friends you found you never think to call who rolled over with the van,” this song seems to honor the friends who support you in the difficult times of life .
Hurd, 37, released “This Party Sucks” on Friday.
“New home and new music. 'This Party Sucks' Friday on Big Machine Records,” Hurd wrote on Instagram earlier this week. “Throw me up in the text if you're as happy as I am. 🍻.”
In the newly released track, Hurd sings along to the kind of party she used to enjoy but now just longs to be somewhere else with a lover.
“I'm trying to figure out how long we have to stay. I used to love this sh— but now I hate champagne,” he sings in one segment, while the rest will include, “Baby, come save me from this little conversation. I can't think of anything except that you and I escape.”
The two musicians met in 2014 while writing songs, and tied the knot after four years. Morris filed for divorce in October 2023 after five years of marriage, which was finalized in January. Since then, she and Hurd have committed to quietly raising 3-year-old son Hayes.
“The integration thing was going well,” Morris said during a September appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast. “We're trying our best this way, but it's still new.”
Morris has also started dipping her toe into the dating scene after coming out as bisexual this summer.
“[I’m dating] a little bit,” said Morris during an appearance on the “Office Chicks” podcast last month. “I've never really dated. Like, I've had two long, romantic relationships with a man, and I've never had this dating phase because I've always been working. [and] I ended up having long relationships with the people I worked with or was close to.”
He added at the time, “Dating for the first time, like, in your 30s is risky, and [joining app] Raya is nature. Like, I've had good experiences from it and, luckily, nothing crazy tortuous. “

The experience also informed Morris' future records.
“Dating right now is great and fun, but I'm sad to say this, it just gives me fodder to write songs,” Morris added on the “Office Chicks” podcast. Like, 'I'm sorry to use you.' It's like helping me get into the POV of, like, an actor getting ready. I'm on my way [acting]like a bad day, a good day [or] whatever is in between, it fuels me.”
Morris released a self-titled EP A breakfeaturing songs about her divorce from Hurd, in August.
“I feel like I'm in the early stages of hearing the sound. I made a whole record, and then my life got better,” he said Us Weekly in February. “I'm getting back to normal, which doesn't scare me that much because … nothing can shake me right now. I'm in the sweet stage of figuring out what the sound is.”
