Meghan Markle has faced many challenges since marrying into the British royal family – but she hasn't let them dim her light.
The first one Suits star fell in love with a storm Prince Harry in 2016, and in November 2017, the two were engaged. In a candid interview with the BBC shortly after their engagement hit the headlines, Meghan and her then-fiance spoke about the extreme ugliness they faced while living in society.
“Yeah, it's disappointing,” Meghan said at the time. “You know, it's a shame that's the climate in the world … but I think at the end of the day, I'm proud of who I am and where I'm from, and we've never focused on it. that. We just focused on who we are as a couple. So, when you remove all those extra layers and all that noise, I think it makes it really easy to enjoy being together and tune out all that other stuff.”
The two married in May 2018. Being the first Black member of the royal family was once again in the spotlight, but Meghan shocked the world again when she gave birth to son Archie, Queen Elizabeth IIFirst grandchild of two nations, May 2019.
Eventually, the pressures of royal life became too much. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned from their senior positions in the palace in January 2020, and three months later settled in Los Angeles with their son. In July 2020, the family of three moved to the quiet neighborhood of Montecito in Santa Barbara, California. Meghan and Harry continued to plant roots in California as they expanded their family with daughter Lilibet, who they welcomed in June 2021.
