Montreal port operations will resume on Saturday after government orders ended the shutdown
Management at the Port of Montreal said operations will resume Saturday after being disrupted by a labor dispute.
The port authority confirms that the Canada Industrial Relations Board has ordered operations to resume as of 7 a.m
But it added that it would take several weeks to re-establish the full flow of both import and export supply chains.
On Sunday, operations at the port fell sharply when the Maritime Employers Association locked out about 1,200 longshore workers after a contract was rejected.
The union representing longshoremen had earlier called for an indefinite strike affecting the two terminals of the port on October 31.
On Tuesday, Labor Minister Steven MacKinnon intervened to end the dispute, asking the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order a resumption of work and move negotiations to resolve the dispute.
