More than $31M in meth hidden in chili shipments seized at Texas border
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at a Texas port of entry seized $31,169,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of pepper on Sunday.
This discovery was made by officers at the CBP Field Operations office at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas, the agency reported on Tuesday.

On Sunday, a tractor trailer from Mexico attempted to enter the US through the cargo area of the Pharr International Bridge.
The vehicle was selected for inspection, including the use of non-intrusive inspection equipment, which is where CBP officers found the drugs.
Police found 1,859 packages of methamphetamine allegedly hidden inside a shipment of serrano peppers. The drugs weigh 2,155.02 kilograms, the agency said.

“Our CBP officers continue to remain vigilant and seize this large shipment of methamphetamine, preventing it from reaching American roads,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

The drugs and the vehicle were seized by the Office of Field Operations and a criminal investigation was initiated by special agents with Homeland Security Investigations.
