More than half of Harris voters want to immigrate following Trump's victory: poll

More than 50% of those who voted for Vice President Kamala Harris said they want to leave following a Trump victory in the 2024 presidential election, according to a survey conducted by StorageUnits.com.

Store Units polled 1,837 Harris voters on Nov. 6 to determine how many would like to relocate — and who actually plans to — and the top concerns of those who voted against Trump.

Of those surveyed, 44% would like to move, but probably won't, while 5% said they definitely would and another 5% said they probably would. Those who would like to move, but perhaps don't, cite personal finances, family ties and community as reasons for them to stay in the area.

Of the 10% planning or considering moving, 90% are looking to move abroad, with the top choices being Canada, the United Kingdom and Mexico. California, New York and Colorado were the top three choices for those considering moving to another state.

According to the survey, the top three reasons Harris voters want to immigrate are concerns that abortion bans will be repealed, racial inequality will increase and civil rights will be repealed.

Access to abortion at the federal level, which has been one of the main issues of the Democrats' campaign, has been an area of ​​concern for many Dem voters even though Trump has said he will not enact a ban on abortion and reiterated that he supports the resolution left. the hands of the states after Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court on June 24, 2022.

Other major areas of concern include: reduced access to health care, increased social inequality, lack of gun control and weak public education.

“Some Harris voters facing fear, anxiety, and worry after the election results may choose to move from a red state to a green state with LGBTQ+ friendly and/or less restrictive abortion laws. However, there are a number of factors that influence any potential measures, such as cost of living, availability jobs, and home prices,” Realtor Jo Ann Bauer told Storage Units.

Of all the generations surveyed, Gen Z had the highest number of Harris voters saying they would definitely move or leave (nearly 20%) compared to Millennials, Gen Xers and Boomers.

Gen Z also had the least number of participants who said they were “not interested in moving” at around 30%.
