Nancy Meyers Mourns Ex-Husband Charles Shyer After His Death at 83
Nancy Meyers she broke her silence after her ex-husband, director and co-director Charles Shyerhe died at the age of 83.
“Charles Shyer 1941-2024 💔,” Meyers, 75, wrote on Instagram on Sunday, December 29, alongside two throwback photos from the set of the eponymous film.
Meyers and Shyer were married between 1980 and 1999. They had two daughters: Annie, 44, and Hallie, 37.
“Totally original,” Hallie wrote on her Instagram Story on Saturday, December 28, sharing a photo of her father.
Shyer died on Friday, December 27.
“It is with an unspeakably heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved father, Charles Shyer,” his family said in a statement. “His loss leaves an unfilled hole in our lives, but his legacy lives on through his children and the fifty years of good work he left behind. We respect the wonderful life she lived and know there will never be another like her.”
Shyer and Meyers joined the Oscar nominees Private Benjamin in 1980 and 1998 The Parent Trap before each achieved directorial success on his own. Shyer, on the other hand, greatly helped the popularity of Father of the Bride franchiseBaby my baby again Irreconcilable Differences.
Father of the Bride star Kimberly Williams-Paisley He was among the stars to honor Shyer's legacy.
“When I was 19, Charles Shyer started my career, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity he and Nancy Meyers gave me,” Williams-Paisley, 53, wrote on Instagram on Saturday. “They've been my Hollywood family for so long, and I wouldn't be who I am today without them. He will be missed. Sending lots of love to the family. ❤️❤️❤️.”
Hallie responded, writing, “Thank you, Kim. This is good 🤍.”
Annie, meanwhile, posted three white heart emojis in the comments section.
In response, Williams-Paisley added, “Sending love to you all ❤️.”
Meyers' Instagram tribute also received an emotional response Lindsay Lohan, Kelly Rutherford, Phoebe Robinson, director Paul Feig and more.
“I am very sorry to hear this. Sending you lots of love, Nancy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Feig, 62, replied.
Lohan, 38, herself, commented with a simple red heart emoji. He also “liked” the upload. Lohan got her big break from the Meyers and Shyer's The Parent Trap remake, starring estranged twins Hallie and Annie. The characters are named after the couple's two daughters.
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend, Charles Shyer,” Lohan wrote on her Instagram Story on Sunday, December 29. “He will always be in my heart and all my fond memories of him. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
