National security adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday that President Joe Biden is doing everything he can to “strengthen” the position in Ukraine as the commander-in-chief prepares to leave office in less than two months.

Sullivan made the comments on ABC's “This Week,” telling Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl that Biden intends to continue advancing his foreign policy goals — including negotiations to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas — as President-elect Donald Trump is expected to continue. . he was sworn in and returned to office on January 20.

“We will do everything we can in these 50 days to get Ukraine all the tools we can to strengthen its position on the battlefield so that it is strong at the negotiating table,” said Sullivan. “And President Biden has instructed me to oversee the increase in military supplies that we bring to Ukraine to use every dollar that Congress appropriated when President Biden left office.”

Last month, Biden highlighted Ukraine's use of long-range ATACMS missiles provided by the US to strike inside Russia.

Trump has expressed doubts about the level of aid being sent to Ukraine, putting him at odds with Biden, who has been a staunch ally of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the country continues to fight Russia.

“I encouraged the Ukrainian team to cooperate with the incoming team and to communicate with all our allies and partners, because, again, on January 21, the war in Ukraine does not end,” Sullivan told Karl. “Obviously the new party will have its own policy, its own approach, and I can't speak to that, but what I can do is make sure that we put Ukraine in the best position when we leave.”
