New Jersey Republican calls out Biden administration for response to drones

Attorney Chris Smith, RN.J., called out the Biden administration during a press conference Saturday about recent drone sightings that have tripped up U.S. officials.

Unidentified drone sightings, seen flying over US military installations and homes in New Jersey since mid-November, have caused concern in the Garden State.

The plane was also spotted in Connecticut. On Thursday, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., called for the drones to be “shot down” if necessary.

On Saturday, US officials held a conference call with reporters and appeared to play down concerns about the planes, saying there was no evidence linking the plane to foreign enemies.

Speaking from Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Smith said he asked DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas why the origin of the drones is still unknown.

“I asked Secretary Mayorkas on a forum, on a Zoom forum, why we can't follow them, find out where they're going,” the Republican told reporters. “They came from somewhere. … You don't seem to do that.

“Why can't we follow them and find out what their origins are? Many of them seem to come out of the sea.”

The representative also revealed that he contacted Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin to ask the US military to authorize the use of force against irregular drones.

The New Jersey politician also expressed the belief that drones may be tied to at least one foreign government.

“The mysterious replacement of these drones, I would suggest, suggests greater military power,” the Republican said. “That begs the question of whether they've been tasked with testing our defense capabilities or worse, with violent dictators, maybe Russia or China or Iran or North Korea.
