Nick Cannon Reveals Insecurities During Mariah Carey's Wedding
Nick Cannon he is open about his insecurities during his marriage Mariah Carey.
The former couple – who share twins Moroccan and Monroe, 13 – were married from 2008 until they finalized their divorce in 2016 (although they split in 2014), and according to Cannon, 44, she had trouble living in the shadow of Carey's fame. .
“I really didn't care what the world said,” Cannon said of the public's perception of his marriage at the time during a recent appearance on the “Ray Daniels Presents” podcast. But to me, that pressure of, 'Who am I?' I was married for 20 years to the biggest star in the world.”
Cannon continued, “It was my way [down] here and you are already in a different stratosphere. I would go to bed at night thinking, 'Is this who I am? Am I Mariah's husband? Is this what my life is supposed to be?'”

“He found the islands and when I woke up in the morning, people brought me beef on a plate. But I'm like, 'This is not a riot,' ” Cannon explained. “And when you have kids … your masculinity is like, 'Wait, I've got a wallet, a diaper bag, I'm standing in the corner.' He moves and is every bit the alpha he is.”
Cannon said he believes Carey, 55, “needs someone like that” but noted that “I'm just not that person.”
The father of 12 said he tried to be the supportive husband and father he thought Carey needed at the time, but felt he was a “partner” in her world. “I'm the main character,” he said. “I was angry with myself. It was like muscle wasting. I had a stomachache. It was like, 'I'm not the boy God put me to be in this world.'
Cannon continued, “Love kept me there. I was like, 'You need a support system. You need someone who doesn't want you for your money, who is honest, who is willing to build a family and raise wonderful children together.' That was my intention. But there was something that stayed with me.”
Although their marriage did not work out, the two stars remain friendly after the divorce.
“Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions flared (which would translate into many billable attorney hours, and eventually did),” Carey wrote in her 2020 memoir, Definition of Mariah Carey. “It was difficult. We both wanted to make sure everything was fine in our family. We will always be a family, and we make it work.”
