By TeeJay Small | Published
If you grew up in the late 1990s or early 2000s like I did, you may remember spending endless hours collecting, reading, and trading volumes of books from the Goosebumps series, written by one Ohio novelist named RL Stine. The books, which have sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide, have spawned numerous adaptations, including a pair of television shows, and several feature-length films. According to What's On Netflix, 2015 Bumps The film, starring Jack Black, is on its way to join Netflix from November 1.
Goosebumps is coming to Netflix
For those who haven't seen 2015 BumpsThe latest Netflix addition centers on a teenage couple named Zach Cooper and Hannah Stine, who become best friends after Zach moves to a small town in Delaware.
Although Hana's overprotective father insists that she not go out and have fun with Zach, the youngsters share a series of adventures, including a day at a disused amusement park. Before long, Zach finds himself in the great library of Hannah's home, where he opens a locked manuscript containing scrolls of strange monsters.
To Zaki's greatest dismay, the monsters mentioned in the texts begin to appear in the real world, prompting him, Hana, and Hana's angry father to chase them away and prevent them from returning to the pages. During this chase, the father reveals himself to be RL Stine, a mentally disturbed genius responsible for writing a book on goblins, ghosts, and one living legend.
As the narrative of Bumps continues to a thrilling conclusion, the Netflix film offers big laughs, shocking special effects, and plenty of excellent homages to the original books.
Filmmaking
A long time ago Bumps picked up by Netflix, the film was conceived by producers Neal Moritz and Deborah Forte. The two, who once worked on television in the 1990s Bumps together, they felt that none of the novels in the series could be properly adapted into a feature film, and instead decided to frame the film as a fictional story of the author and many of his creations.
Film producer Rob Letterman was chosen as the director of this project based on the recommendation of Jack Black, who has worked with the director on similar films. Shark Taland again Gulliver's Travels.
A number of talented players appear in the game Bumps Netflix film alongside Jack Black, including Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Jillian Bell, Keith Arthur Bolden, Timothy Simons, Ken Marino, and The officeby Amy Ryan. The real-life RL Stine even appears in the film, portraying a music teacher humorously named Jack Black. The film quickly became a huge box office success, grossing over $150 million against a production budget of only $58 million.
Important Acceptance
Reviews of Bumps was mixed but very positive upon release, leading the Netflix film to post a solid 78% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes today. Personally, I think the movie is perfectly usable for a general audience, although I've always felt that its attempt to cram a lot of book plot lines and characters into one film detracts a bit from the quality of the original works.
While the 2015 film may not appeal directly to all my tastes, I can mostly attribute this to the nostalgia factor and deep attachment I have to the original book series.
Those who want to explore Bumps they can enjoy the movie on Netflix on November 1.
