Prince William Makes Strange Comment About Prince Harry Amid Controversy
Prince William made an unusual public comment about his brother Prince Harry what followed were years of discord between the royal brothers.
In a newly released promo clip for the upcoming documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, uploaded to YouTube on Saturday, October 26, the future king of England recalled a shared childhood memory.
William, 42, remembers how his late mother, Princess Dianahe took her and Harry to The Passage – a UK charity that supports those experiencing or at risk of homelessness – which was an eye-opening childhood experience for her.
“My mother took me to Passage; he took Harry and I both there. I must have been 11 at the time, maybe 10,” said William. “I had never been to anything like that before, and I was a little worried about what to expect.”
William shared that this experience made him realize how privileged his upbringing was, and forced him to accept that not everyone's life is like the one he was born into.
“My mother acted as usual, she made everyone feel at ease, laughing and joking with everyone. I remember at that time kind of thinking, 'Well, if everyone doesn't have a home, everyone will be really miserable.' “But it was amazing how exciting the place was,” said William. “I remember we had nice conversations, we played chess, we talked and that's when it dawned on me that there are other people who don't live like you.”
He continued: “You know, when you're young, you just think that life is what you see in front of you and you have no idea to look elsewhere. It's when you meet people, like I did then, who put a different idea in your head and say, 'Well, I was living on the street last night,' and you're like, 'Woah.' I miss what happened.”
The comments are believed to be the first time William has spoken publicly about Harry since their falling out following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's leave the Royal Family in January 2020.
Harry, 40, has previously touched on his complicated relationship with his brother, including in an interview with CBS in 2021.
“I love William. We have been through hell together and we have shared experiences, but we are on different paths,” she said. “Relationships are a vacuum at the moment and time heals all things, hopefully.”
Harry later described William as his “archnemesis” in his 2023 biography, Save.
“There's always been this rivalry between us, in a weird way,” Harry said during the interview Good Morning America in January 2023 while promoting his book. “I think it's really playing or it's always played by the 'heir/spare'.”
