Russian court tells Yandex to hide pictures of oil refinery after Ukraine attack, TASS says
(Reuters) – A Russian court has ordered Internet company Yandex to withhold access to maps and images of one of Russia's largest oil refineries because of frequent Ukrainian airstrikes, TASS news agency reported on Friday.
Yandex, often referred to as “Google's Google”, operates the world's largest search engine and other online services such as maps, translation and email, as well as walking and food delivery.
A Moscow court ordered Yandex not to include information about the refinery's infrastructure in its search results by removing and editing photos of workshops, compressor stations and other parts of the plant from Yandex Maps, TASS reported.

It is not clear which court decision is being referred to, but TASS said the facility was attacked four times by Ukrainian drones in 2024.
Ukraine has held several strikes on oil storage facilities and refineries, in response to an attack on Moscow in February 2022 and repeated attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
The court's decision can be appealed. Yandex did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The refinery tried to resolve the issue directly with Yandex before taking the matter to court, TASS said. The plaintiff asserted that the availability of information about the refinery on the Internet undermined Russia's defense capabilities and had a negative impact on the military.
