Saddest TV Deaths of 2024: From Foreign Banks to General Hospital
Foreign Banks It's not the only show that killed off a major character in 2024 — and many of those fictional deaths still upset fans.
Season 4, which premiered in November, got off to a great start with the broadcast focusing on JJ (Rudy Pankow), which has been a hit with viewers since the hit hit Netflix in 2020. However, at the end, fans were left stunned when JJ was finally killed by his biological father, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).
“When I first found out that JJ would take a risk but not succeed, I understood. And the stakes got too big, and the stakes got too high,” said Pankow on Tudum for Netflix in November 2024. “His death really puts the future of OBX on hold with the question, what should you do? And if someone close to you isn't there, how do you go about that?”
One month before, Kelly Monaco wrapped up his run as Samantha McCall was on General Hospital. Monaco recalled his time with the show before the news.
“I was a fan of General Hospital. That was my dream; I was like, 'General Hospital all the way!' So, I was happy there [then-ABC daytime president] Brian Frons said they will create a role for me,” he said Soap Digest in 2023. “Sam came to the canvas with only him and his brother, always caring for someone and never being cared for. I think the biggest change for her is going from being a really lonely, scared woman to a woman who is still really independent, but protected by family and friends and love and relationships and loyalty, and she's never had that before.”
He concluded by saying: “Now he has a family and children. He came in bent and broken, and I feel like a lot of him is still broken, but he's always putting the Rubik's cube together. All the pieces don't quite fit yet, but they're definitely not broken!”

Cara ('Land of Fire')
The CBS series Killed Cara (Sabina Gadecki) during season 2 in an ambulance accident that occurred during a fire tornado. Cara suffered a brain injury, but due to the natural disaster, she was unable to receive proper medical attention in time.
Dr. Asher Wolke ('The Good Doctor')

After three months Adam Canto died at the age of 42 following a private battle with appendiceal cancer, his character continues The Cleaning Lady it was turned off. The Fox show revealed that Arman was killed briefly before being safely returned to Nadia (Eva De Dominici) for ransom.
George Cooper Sr. ('Young Sheldon')
Sheldon's (Iain Armitage) father, George Cooper Sr.Lance Barber), died of a heart attack off-screen in the final season of Young Sheldon.
Sol ('Star Wars: The Acolyte')
Osha (Power Stenberg) killed his mentor in the Disney show's season – and series – finale after discovering that Sol (Lee Jung-jae) was the one who killed his mother. Using the Force, Osha caused Sol's death and was then blamed for all the other murders throughout the season.
Sam McCall ('General Hospital')
After playing Sam for over 2,000 episodes, Monaco quit General Hospital. Her character underwent a successful operation and became engaged to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Later he started to crash and the doctors were unable to revive him.
JJ Maybank ('Foreign Banks')
Season 4 of Foreign Banks it ended when JJ died after being stabbed by his biological father. The rest of the Pogues vow to avenge JJ's death, but not everyone is happy about the twist ahead of the show's fifth and final season yet again. Foreign Banks he later received backlash online.
