Sam & Dave toured the United States, Europe and Turkey, but their drug use was beginning to take a toll. Their decline slowed when John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, as the Blues Brothers, recorded a hit version of “Soul Man” in the late 1970s, bringing new attention to the original.
Sam Moore and Dave Prater played together for the last time on New Year's Eve 1981 in San Francisco. After they left the stage, they never spoke again. Mr. Prater hired a new partner, Sam Daniels, and they worked together, billed as Sam & Dave or the New Sam & Dave Revue – over Mr. Prater's objections. Moore – until Mr. Prater died in a car accident in 1988.
Act III opened a year after that last show, where Mr. Moore married Joyce McRae, “a middle-class Jewish girl from Chicago” who first saw him perform in 1967. manage his work and guide him to a productive professional night.
Sam & Dave were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
The solo album of Mr. Moore's “Plenty Good Lovin',” which he recorded in 1970 but which Atlantic, for various reasons, refused to release, finally reached a glowing review in 2002. Played for presidents and recorded with Bruce Springsteen, Conway. Twitty, Lou Reed and other artists. He has also worked to help secure copyrights and long-overdue awards for other performers and songwriters.

“It's been a bumpy ride, but it's been great,” Joyce Moore said in a 2014 interview. “One of the most painful parts was seeing how Sam and his peers were abused and mistreated – and still are. Most of them never got their money back. But we are blessed.”
