Michael C. Hall he originally played the role on Dexter from 2006 to 2013. Original Sin set in 1991, it focuses on Dexter's transformation from student to vengeful killer and unsuspecting member of the Miami Metropolitan Police Department.

Hall previously returned to TV screens as Dexter in the spinoff of the same title New Bloodwhich was released in 2021 but ended one year later. There are plans for more sequels, though it's unclear how Hall will play Dexter since his character has died – multiple times.
“I'm on the fence to some extent and I have a feeling of what's going to happen but I'm very excited,” Hall said. Entertainment Weekly in August 2024 regarding the future of the franchise. “I've spent a lot of time with this character and going back and filling in all the blanks is going to be great.”
Hall said he was excited to have so many references to his character Dexter: Resurrectionadding, “The texts they used are amazing. I can't wait, like, as a fan, to watch it, and as a player to spend time seeing the actual pictures of things that I tried to imagine myself when I think of the early days of Dexter [were like].”
He concluded: “Now I'll have these kind of technicolor memories to refer to. I think it will help inform my knowledge of anything that follows in another thread, which I can talk about vaguely for now. It has a good head. It's very exciting.”
