Shannon Beador's Ex John Janssen Recalls His 'DUI' Incident
John Janssen he opens up about his experience with an ex-girlfriend Shannon Beador on the night of his DUI.
Janssen, 62, shared his side of the story with Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, November 27, explaining the events that led to Beador being he was arrested and charged for DUI and hit-and-run in September 2023. This November, The Real Housewives of Orange County ustar, 60, was sentenced to three years in state prison and 40 hours of community service. At the time of his arrest, Beador's blood alcohol level was over .24 percent — three times the legal limit.
Janssen said Entertainment Tonight that he was returning from a trip to Catalina Island with his friends to find Beador at his home.
“We haven't spoken yet,” he recalled. “I didn't expect to see him there. The level of intoxication was shocking, and his case had lost his phone. I was always there to help Shannon with her problems, and I think it was left up to Uber.”
Janssen said that after the Uber driver dropped off the phone at Beador's home, he went there and placed it by her door where it would be easy for him to find it. He didn't want his ex sleeping in his house.
“That's where the story gets bad,” said Janssen. “He just got angry because I had not returned the phone call to him. It's like he's possessed, and he kept attacking me for about the next minute, and I was backing away the whole time.”
Then his daughters came and asked Beador to leave. She alleges that she responded by “screaming” and “threatening” her children. At this time, Beader let his dog Archie, who lived with Janssen, out the door.
“I have bruises on me, and I'm very upset,” he recalled.
At that time, “Archie is out running around the street, so that creates a scene. And finally, you find Archie. He comes and tries to take his car. I stopped in front of her to stop her from getting into her car, and I finally said, 'Shannon, you're a drunk idiot and you're making a big mistake.' Then he gets into his car, flips it backwards out of my driveway, and hits one of my daughters.”
After that, Janssen withdrew, “because I won't touch him in any way, and somehow have him accuse me of something else. So he backs up, almost hits my daughter, and runs around the corner, and we hear a crash. ” (Beador had cut through another house with Archie in his car and fled the scene.)
Janssen ran towards the sound of the crash, but his daughters stopped him, saying, “Dad, you're not going anywhere near. We will go.”
The police soon arrived at Janssen's house and returned Archie to him. Janssen recalled knowing at the time that Beador had been arrested. He did not answer his calls and messages, he confirmed through the hospital that he was there.
“I said, 'Can I come see him?' Again [the nurse] he said, 'No, you can't. You will not be allowed to see him. You're under arrest, so don't come,'” he said Entertainment Tonight. “After that, I turned off the phone and the whole night, I didn't sleep at all [Beador’s] daughter, and the next morning I'm at the police station waiting for her to be released from prison.”
The next morning, he picked up Beador from the jail and “put aside my sadness, anger, frustration from being scared that night, and my daughter being scared that night.”
Janssen “took her home, I helped her undress, I washed her, I fed her, I bought her groceries, I took her to the dry cleaners, I took her to the doctor's appointment,” he said. “I took care of him for the next ten days. Was it a guy who didn't care about that?”
Later, something happened between Beador and one of his children that Janssen, without giving details, called “the straw that broke the camel's back.” He called Beador and said, “I'm sorry but I can't be your friend.” I need to separate myself completely from your world and your life. “
Janssen said he decided to go public that night for clarification.
“I wanted this story to die, and it's really sad that it ever came out [Real Housewives] because that now forces my hand to explain because the way we are left now has a lot of negative effects on me, and anyone who knows the whole truth that night would not think that I did anything wrong,” he said.
Us Weekly he has reached out to a lawyer The Real Housewives of Orange County to comment.
Tamra Judge again Heather Dubrow said in the franchise's episode of meeting last week that Janssen had heard Beador crash his car. Hearing this, Beador said he felt “numb,” admitting, “I heard him say I punched him.” But I don't remember everything. I don't know what I did that night.”
Beador was embroiled in a years-long legal battle with Janssen, who was engaged to be married Alexis Bellino. Janssen previously sued Beador for breach of oral contract and forgery, alleging that he did not reimburse her for the $75,000 she spent on her facelift.
At first, Beador agreed to pay him half of that money, but changed his mind when he learned he allegedly had footage of his 2023 DUI arrest. He offered another sum to get a no-discount agreement, which Janssen refused.
It was confirmed by Us on November 19 that Janssen and Beador reached an agreement to dismiss the case, with Janssen filing a notice of settlement. On November 21st, Beador uploaded a screenshot on his Instagram Story “Outgoing Wire Transfer Receipt” a total of $60,000. He captioned the post, “Enjoy,” and tagged both Bellino and Janssen's official accounts.
In July, Beador I spoke frankly Us about how he's still trying to improve after his DUI arrest last year.
“I've done a lot and I still have a lot to do,” said Beador. “I work with my therapist, I have a psychiatrist who came out of the program I went to for 30 days. And I feel like I'm growing. I'm looking in a healthy direction, and I'm trying to create whatever kind of good thing I can out of a bad situation.”
