Sheryl Lee Ralph Defends Life After Separation from Husband Vincent Hughes
Sheryl Lee Ralph with her husband, Vincent Hughesthey remain happily in love after twenty years of marriage — even though they don't live together.
“I am very lucky. The man I am married to is Senator Vincent Hughes, the seventh Senatorial District of Pennsylvania,” she said Abbott Elementary star, 68, told People in a profile published on Wednesday, January 8. “You fall in love with someone and you see that he is not leaving his job. He's not leaving Philadelphia. I'm not leaving Hollywood. When you have children, it becomes more difficult.”
Ralph and Hughes, 68, have been married since 2005. The actor was previously married. Eric Mauricewith whom he shares son Etienne and daughter Ivy-Coco.
Ralph is based in Los Angeles, where he makes films for ABC Abbott Elementarywhile Hughes maintained a residence in Pennsylvania as his political base.
“Every two weeks we saw each other, and it continued to work well,” he explained at the store. When I go to see him, I like to see him. When it's time to go, 'Bye-bye. See you soon.' I tell you, life is good.”
Ralph continued, “He has his own life. I have my life. He has his real job, I have my real job. He has his light to stand in, I have my light to stand in. He doesn't look at me thinking about the situation or this or that. He does his thing. I'll do my thing.”
That being said, Ralph and Hughes remain each other's career leaders.
“It's all good,” explains Ralph, citing communication as their secret to success. “I have repented [saying]'Let's talk about it.' If you sit in problems, you get anxious, stressed, and all the juiciness in life starts to stop. I can't do that, because all that will spoil my appearance
Ralph's bicoastal wedding initially raised eyebrows years ago in 2023.
“I see him every two weeks and when I see him I'm very happy to see him and when I leave I'm very happy to leave because I know I'll be back!” Ralph said More December 2023.
Weeks later, she reiterated that long-distance love is working for them.
“[Vincent and I] sit together and close, to that I shoot Abbott Elementary in LA [and] he's in the Capitol every week,” said Ralph E! News. “So, see you later [our busy schedules].”
