Smyrna DUI checkpoint results in multiple arrests
DUI checkpoint in Smyrna on Dec. 27 resulted in several arrests and numerous tickets, according to Delaware State Police.
Five people were arrested for drunk driving in 472 vehicles that passed that night, and 32 traffic tickets were issued, police said.
A total of nine DUI arrests have come from Delaware police checkpoints this year. A total of 14 people were arrested in these search areas. The checkpoint in Milford in September was the first since 2019.

Drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher can be found guilty of driving under the influence. First-time offenders can face fines of $500-$1,500 and up to a year in jail.
Drivers may also lose their licenses for one to two years. According to the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, 31 deaths were related to drugs or alcohol in 2023.
