Sydney Sweeney slams Hollywood's 'women empowering other women' message as 'fake'

Sydney Sweeney calls out Hollywood for the authenticity of its attitude towards the advancement of women.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 27-year-old actress slammed the entertainment industry's slogan of “women empowering other women” as “false.”

While speaking with the newspaper, Sweeney was asked about a previous incident where a female producer disparaged the “Euphoria” star's looks and talent.

“It's very disheartening to see women putting other women down, especially when successful women in other areas of their industry see young talent working hard – hoping to achieve whatever dreams they may have – and try to hide and denigrate any work they've done,” Sweeney said.

“The whole industry, all the people say 'women empower other women.' Nothing is happening Everything is false and in front of everyone else — what they say behind everyone else's back.

The two-time Emmy Award nominee speculated about why she believes women may not be truly supportive of other women.

“I mean, there are many studies and different opinions about the thinking behind that. I learned that all our lives, we were raised – and it's a generational problem – to believe that only one woman can be at the top. There is only one woman. who can find a man. There is only one woman who can be, I don't know, anything else,” he explained.

So, everyone else feels like they have to fight each other or put that woman down instead of, 'Let's all lift each other up,'” added the “White Lotus” actor.

“I'm still trying to think. I'm trying my best. Am I being attacked?”

“Nothing's happening. It's all lies and it's ahead of all the other s— they're saying behind everyone else's back.”

In April, longtime filmmaker Carol Baum attended a screening of her 1988 film “Dead Ringers” at the Jacob Burns Film Center in New York and later criticized Sweeney's appearance and acting skills, according to the Daily Mail.

The producer recalled watching Sweeney's hit movie, “Anyone But You” while on the plane.

“I wanted to know who he is and why everyone is talking about him. I watched this unwatchable movie – I apologize to the people who like this movie – [this] romantic comedies where they hate each other,” said Baum.

Baum, who also serves as a professor at the University of Southern California, added, “I said to my class, 'Describe this girl to me. She's not pretty. She can't act. Why is she so hot?'

The producer told the crowd that “nobody has an answer” to his question.

When reached for comment about Baum's comments, a representative for Sweeney's gave Fox News Digital a terse statement on the matter.

“How sad that a woman in a position to share her knowledge and experience chose to attack another woman,” said the statement. “If that's what she's learned from her decades in the industry and feels it's appropriate to teach her students, that's a shame. To unfairly disparage another female producer speaks volumes for Ms. Baum's character.”

After making him a successful actor in 2019 with the success of “Euphoria,” Sweeney founded his own production company Fifty-Fifty Films in 2020. In addition to starring in the movie “Anyone But You,” Sweeney was an executive producer. He also produced and starred in the horror film “Immaculate,” which was released in March.
