Taiwan, democracy, development are China's 'red lines', Xi tells Biden
BEIJING (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping told his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden that Taiwan issues, democracy, human rights and development rights are “red lines” for China and must not be disputed, state news agency Xinhua said on Sunday. .
Xi warned the United States not to get involved in bilateral disputes over islands and reefs in the South China Sea or “help or participate in provocation” in the region, he said.
China and the United States will deteriorate or see the relationship revert to mutual rivalry, but they can make great progress by treating each other as partners and friends, Xi told Biden on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum in Peru, according to Xinhua.
