If you're a crowd-pleaser, there's a list of movies and TV shows that are absolutely must-sees. You, of course, have it The Sopranos and the Godfather trilogy but any fan of the genre worth their salt knows that one of the most iconic mafioso movies comes from Martin Scorsese with the famous director's 1990 feature, Goodfellas. Next month, Paramount+ subscribers will be in for a real treat when the star-studded film hits the streaming platform on November 1.
Goodfellas is a Classic Mobster Movie
There are many things that do Goodfellas an outstanding classic but at the top of the list is the fact that it is based on a true story. The script of the gangster flick was written by Nicholas Pileggi, who is also the author of its sources, Wiseguy. Combining a true story with dramatic violence made the movie a thrilling adventure into the underworld of Cosa Nostra.
A true story feature of Goodfellas it focuses on the real life of Henry Hill, who, in the movie, is portrayed by Ray Liotta. The audience tags along with Henry from a young age as the Brooklyn native begins to watch the glamorous life led by the men next door, through his rise in the organized crime syndicate. For over 25 years, Henry's knowledge and experience take a very important place, as he does anything to make crazy money, stay loyal to his friends and family, and – most importantly – stay alive.
Star-studded Actor
As we have said, the aspect of the true story of Goodfellas it's a huge selling point as it gives a real inside look at what it was like to be a mob member in those days. But another big piece of the puzzle that made Martin Scorsese's film so popular was its absolutely stacked call sheet. Along with Ray Liotta, the film also features a stellar cast including Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Paul Sorvino.

With the new Certified Rotten Tomatoes Stamp of Approval, Goodfellas sits on the review site with a 95 percent critic approval rating. Receiving six Academy Awards – including Best Picture – the film would take home one for Joe Pesci who won the Best Supporting Actor trophy, the film would go on to become one of the accolades of Martin Scorsese's long career.
