A beloved TV presenter from Georgia fell into a river while hiking – prompting paramedics to pull off a daring rescue.
Carol Sbarge, who has worked for WSB-TV for nearly three decades, went hiking in September with her boyfriend in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
His peaceful hike turned disastrous when he fell into a steep ravine.
“So, somehow, as I was walking down the trail, my foot hit a rock. And before I knew it, I just fell down this ravine,” he told WSB-TV.

He broke his ankle in three places when he fell, he told the store.
Her boyfriend first – unsuccessfully – tried to call the emergency services for help, but their remote location prevented the call from going through.

Eventually, another hiker came to their aid and walked off the sidewalk to contact Habersham County Emergency Services.
Crews arrived at the scene after walking two kilometers down the trail and quickly checked the slope where Sbarge fell. A local official reported that they used ropes and a helicopter to slowly lift him out of the canyon.
Officials said it was the first time they had pulled a hiker out of Panther Creek Falls.
Sbarge was airlifted and walked 2.2 miles before being admitted to a local hospital. He told a local shop that he needed eight screws and a metal in his ankle.

“They're just special people. They take risks. You know, every day they don't know what kind of danger they're going to face,” Sbarge told the outlet, referring to the rescue workers.
