The robbers impersonated police during the attack and robbery in Koreatown, the LAPD said
Three men wearing “police” uniforms and apparently impersonating law enforcement officers robbed a Koreatown apartment early Saturday morning, according to the LAPD.
The men, along with a fourth, took a large amount of money and jewelry from a residence in the 3100 block of Wilshire Boulevard and struck around 2:40 a.m., police said.
LAPD Chief Drake Madison said three of the thieves were wearing black masks and “black police uniforms” and the fourth was wearing a gray sweatshirt. At least one was carrying a black automatic handgun, Madison said.
The thieves, who Madison said took a “large amount” of cash and jewelry, fled the scene after the attack and robbery.
When police and paramedics arrived, the victim refused to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, Madison said.
This incident is not the first time that criminals have recently dressed up as law enforcement officers during a crime. In June, police said two men impersonated US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, including using fake badges, to gain access to homes in Anaheim before robbing Latino residents.
